Now that Nick is a Yankee, there is a lot to talk about with Yankee fans.

ne of the best things about being a professional ballplayer is the amount of people I get to meet. Over the course of the season I’m playing in dozens of different cities, meeting the guys on the other team and most fun of all — the fans. I wish I could get a chance to spend more time with the fans and connect with them one-on-one so I figured this is a great place to do it. Ask me any questions you may want the answers to. If there is something you’re dying to know about me, the Yankees or baseball in general, or even if you just want to know who my favorite actor is or band may be, send me an email and you just might see the answer to your question right on the site.

Dear Nick: Our 3 year old son was diagnosed with stage 3 high risk neuroblastoma on March 15 2007. Since then, our lives have been an emotional and financial roller coaster ride. We also have a 2 year old daughter and since my sons diagnosis, all of our lives have been turned upside down. My family had the opportunity to meet you at UCSF for Macys tree lighting kick-off. To be 100% honest, we are not baseball fans and did not have any idea who you were. I can now say we feel blessed to have met you. We have been coming to UCSF for treatment for the past 8 months, and have met so many wonder families and kids who going through the same thing we are. Cancer is a devastating disease, and is horrible to see anyone suffer, especially these innocent children. You are very lucky to be where you are at in your life, and it is so wonderful that you share your time and wealth with others. You have done so much for the children that are fighting cancer and those that have lost their battle and I would like to say thank you. I hope you inspire more people to follow in your footsteps. The organization you have founded and partner with will make the difference in a lot of peoples lives and for this, it makes you a wonderful person. Everyday we teach our children about life, but they teach us what life is truly about. Remember this, and keep doing what you do. Beth Crone

Beth: I loved visiting with the children at UCSF and I’m sorry you and your family are dealing with so much. You are definitely at the right place and I pray that your little guy will be feeling better real soon. -Swish

Dear Nick, I am sorry you didn’t make the playoffs this year, but you are still my favorite player and the A’s are always gonna be my favorite team. That will never change. You are the most exciting player in baseball and also the best player in baseball no matter what.I had fun watching you and the entire A’s team play this year and I know next year you guys will be better and be back in the playoffs once again.I just wanted to thank you for the exciting year. Thanks Nick, Jon Laxen

Jon: Thanks for writing in! 2008 is just around the corner!

- Swish

Nick: Great website!. You have a nice winter. See you at spring training 08 in Arizona. You are such a great player and you should get the Roberto Clemente award!. love and peace, Kathy

Kathy: Thanks! Check back this off season because Matt Walker, my talented designer, and I will be redesigning my site. -Swish

Nick, Thank you for a great season. Your enthusiasm is charismatic and you bring a certain spunk to the team that you can tell your team mates enjoy having around, and the fans do too. I was very excited to get to attend both of our Swish’s Wishes events, they were a lot of fun and the money is going to a great cause, oh and by the way when will you have your next event? I have attached some photos from the last home series. Have a great off season and I will see you at Phoenix-Muni in March 2008 or maybe a Swish’s Wishes event before then, :-) Sincerely, Kelli Limi A’s fan in Monterey, CA

Kelli: Thanks for all of your support! 2008 will be a great one! -Swish

Hey Nick- My hair is getting really long. I can’t wait to get it long enough to donate. I have sad news. I had to move from San Ramon so I can’t come to the A’s games anymore. We moved to Iowa. Now we live pretty close to Swisher Iowa which I think is really cool. The only baseball team near us is the Cedar Rapids Kernels but my dad said we could get season tickets when their season starts again. I still wear my A’s hat every day though and when we see you guys play the White Sox in Chicago next year, I’ll come say hi. Maybe you can cut my hair in Cchicago next summer! My mom said that as soon as we unpack the camera we’ll send you a picture so you can see how long my hair is getting. From, Ian Taylor

That is so cool …and yes…I will do my best to cut it for you! It has to be 8 inches long, I think

Go to Pantene Beautiful Lengths site and check out how you go about it!

Dear Mr. Swisher, I am the father of two young boys who have been writing you about their trip in Seattle this weekend. I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness towards the fans and in particular my boys. We came to the games early on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the hope of getting autographs. Your willingness to patiently sign autographs meant the world to both Scott and Wyatt. Scott is currently sleeping with his ball and refuses to allow it out of his sight while he is awake. On Sunday, as they announced the Hall of Fame induction of Cal Ripkin and Tony Gwynn, I found myself thinking that those men were my heroes as a kid not only because of their skill on the baseball diamond, but also because of the way they acted towards the fans, especially the children. You may not have Hall of Fame numbers (yet), but you are already among the best when it come to pure classiness. As a father, I am proud that my sons view you as their hero. Thank you again for taking the time to give autographs and talk to your fans. We may have lost all three games that we saw in Seattle, but my kids are on cloud nine because of your simple act of kindness. Thank you. Sincerely, Sean O’Donnell

Wow! Thanks for your letter. The boys have written to me here on my site…it was cool to meet them in person.

Dear Nick, I am kinda like you, only a little younger. My Name is Nick and I also play centerfield. I always carried your picture in my back pocket of my uniform for good luck and guess what? My team the Treeview Diamondbacks were undefeated! I also lost my grandma to cancer. Well I think you are awesome! and I think I am your biggest fan! Keep up the good work. Nick-8yrs

Hey Nick! What a great letter to get. Thanks so much. We have a lot in common….it must be so cool to be undefeated! I am sorry you lost your grandma too….it’s hurts but I know both of our grandma’s are looking over us! Stay in touch! -Swish

Hi my name is Collin Hill I am a 12 year old in Chillicothe,Ohio. I used to watch you play at Ohio State because you played with the pitcher Cory Cox. He is my cousin. I’ve watch you play all this time and I was wondering if you would like to come to our county fair and bid on my 4-H pig I even named him Swisher. Thank You YOUR FRIEND, COLLIN HILL

Hey Colin! Thanks for writing to me!! I love that you named your pig Swisher! That’s a first! You gotta love that one!! Can you send me a picture of you and Swish? When is the fair?? Stay in touch - -Swish (the ballplayer not the pig!)

Swish, Dude, I didn’t know you had a web site until today. Incredible!!!! As a lifelong A’s fan..back to the early 70’s bro….you have become my all time favorite Athletic….and that’s not easy. You’re a great ball player, the only guy in the Bigs that I have seen in YEARS who ’stretches’ at first base, a lost art form, to say the least. You sell out every play of every game. You’re a quote a minute and a knucklehead…a great compliment, by the way, with the media and regular folks alike. You respect the game. You’re humble and unaffected by your fame and fortune. You give back to kids and the community. You’re devoted to your family and your fans. You’re what we all want our professional athletes to be Keep up the great work….you give old guys like me faith that the game I LOVE is in good hands. Thomas

Hey Thomas!

Thanks so much for your email — it means a lot! I think our site is really coming along…we still have lots to do so keep checking back.

When you come out to a game, make sure you yell! Stay in touch- -Swish

Hi Nick, I just wanted to say thank you for hosting such a wonderful event last night at the Pyramid Ale House in Berkeley. Seems like Swish’s Wishes got off to a fantastic start. I was the lucky winner of YOUR jersey in the jersey off your back auction! I was also the lucky winner of the Mark Ellis bat in the silent auction! I am proud to have contributed to such a worthy cause, and look forward to many more events that you will host. Looks like we were both winners last night! Thanks again, Michelle Harris Elk Grove, CA

Hey Michele! What a great night it was!! Thanks so much for coming…. We raised $75,000 in my first event so I’m pretty excited. Thanks too, for sending the picture…send more if you have any. Go A’s! -Swish

Dear Nick, What to say here that has not already been said. First off, thank you for being an amazing player and going out there and doing your best everyday. You truly look like you enjoy the game and there is nothing better to watch than a player who loves what he does. Second, though I do not know you personally, you seem like the kind of a person who is very light hearted and caring. You bring a fun energy this club has been lacking since, dare I say it, Miguel Tejada was there. And although I have only briefly met you twice, once through the shuffling of fan fest where you signed my hat (and thus making my season) and the other time at Macy’s in Pleasanton where I bought $100 worth of some jeans for men just to get an autograph, you were honestly one of the most pleasant and polite players I have met. So again, thank you for that. I admire all you do for charities and the kids. It is amazing to see someone care so much and have so much compassion for others (or I guess it’s rare). I’m sorry about the loss of you grandmother. I know you cared about her a lot. I am the same way, my grandparents raised me too. I guess I’ll end this since I am sure to reiterate things other people have said. Hope you continue to have a good season, stay healthy and God bless! Love Always, Amanda Green Fremont, CA

Amanda-

What a nice email. Thanks so much! I love all of our fans and I just try to be myself. Come to the games!!! –Swish

HI Nick! My name is Kelli and I could say the same thing you must hear 100 x, I am your biggest fan! If I walk out of the room when a game is on, my husband or kids will yell “Mom, Swishers on” :) I have to tell you, not only are you an awesome baseball player but you are a very kind hearted man. ( there is not many of you left). You seemed to have such a caring heart and I am so glad to see that the “money” has not gone to your head. My 10 year old son LOVES to watch and play baseball and tells me “mom, I am going to be the next swisher” I always tell him that you are a good person to for him to want to be like. Scott (my son) has a knack for baseball, my husband and I encourage him to follow his dreams and never be discouraged!!! I also want to tell you how touched I am about your relationship with your grandma Betty. What an angel she must have been to you. I had a grandma that I deeply loved and when I lost her, I was 14 years old and devastated, I miss her to this day. She will always hold a special place in my heart, just as your grandma will. I don’t want to keep rambling on so I will say thank you for being such a wonderful roll model for everyone, you are a true and caring person and I am proud to be your biggest fan and for my son to want to be like you!!! Thanks, Kelli

Hey Kelli! Thanks for writing….What a great letter to get! I love playing this game…it’s really a life long dream that’s come true…and I hope it shows in my style of play. I am so lucky to have had that special relationship with my grandma. She really was and still is…the love of my life. Stay in touch! Swish

Dear Nick, Hi, we sit in the right field bleachers sometimes and at one game recently you we’re playing in the right field. My daughter Katelyn yelled hello to you and you said “Hi” back to her. Well, now you have a FAN forever. For a little girl who didn’t particularly enjoy baseball as much as her mom does, has now converted to a NICK SWISHER OAKLAND A’S FAN! She wrote you a letter, but we didn’t know WHERE to send it so, I am scanning it for you. She also had an idea of lowering her NEW mitt to the field “by a string” so you could autograph it. I told her we’d probably be ejected, but I did scan the back of her letter for you. HOPE to see you in right field! Thanks for your time, AND GO A’s!! Katy’s Mom

Morning!

This is the best letter!! Love it! Thanks so much for sending Katelyn’s drawings too! Next time you are at a game…yell at me so I can say hello!

Dear Nick Swisher, I want to be on a major league team when I grow up. I am 9 years old and I have 2 questions. Do you have any free time to yourself and what do you do if you do have free time? - Kaylyn J. Prehm

Hey Kaylyn!

Thanks so much for writing to me!

During the season I have very little time to myself because we have games nearly everyday. If we do have an off day…and we aren’t on a plane to another city….I like to play golf. That really relaxes me.

I’m just an OK golfer but the more I play I think I’ll get better. Take care. -Swish

Dear Nick Swisher, My name is Tisha from Monterey California. I know you probably hear this a lot but I am your number one fan. You are my HERO. I never thought I could look up to some one as much as I do to you. My life dream is to meet you. I play softball and I hope that one day I can be as good as you are in baseball , in softball. I’ve been to many of your games and watched you play. You are amazing. I love your attitude out there and the fact that you will do anything it takes to win. My friends make fun of me because I always talk about you and your games. But I just can’t help it, you’re my idol. People doubt the fact that I will ever meet you but hopefully at some point in my life I will get to… I just wanted to tell you this and maybe one day we will meet. You are the coolest and my favorite baseball player. Thanks for taking the time to read this. GO A’S!!!!! _Tish loves Swish!_

Tisha! Thanks for writing!!! Thanks for your nice words…I just try to always be myself. Come out to an A’s game sometime and give me a shout so I can say hello. Good luck with your softball. What position to do you play? Take care- -Swish

Dear Mr. Nick Swisher, My Name is Casey Van Camp, I am 12 years old, and I live in Napa, California. When I grow up I would like to be the first girl to play major league baseball, I play catcher on an all boys team for my local little league. My Dad and I are huge Athletics’ fans and are also season ticket holders (we go to at least 20 games a year). I just wanted to let you know that I think it is awesome that you donated your hair to make wigs for people who have lost there hair to cancer. You may have seen me at one of your games. I have a big neon yellow sign that says “Nick Swisher You’re My Hero”, because you truly are. I think its great when professional athletes or famous people do something good that helps others, because it inspires other people to follow their example and do the same thing. Because you donated your hair, I have decided to donate my hair this summer too. I just wanted to thank you for being such a great role model for me and many other A’s fans. Go A’s! ~Casey~

Hey Casey! You have made my day! Thanks for writing me!

I am really proud that I teamed up with the folks at Pantene….and grew my hair for over 10 months! But…let me tell you…it was crazy! My hair started getting stuck in the pine tar on my bat!!

I have short hair now…it’s call a faux hawk….! I’m a little neater now and it’s much easier to deal with. How do you ladies do it??

Anyway, always follow your dream….and if you come out to the park, make sure you give me a shout!! Take Care -Swish

Hi, I do have lots of questions but I’ll hold off on them. I have two things to say. First I finally converted my dad from a Giants fan to an A’s fan and you are my dads favorite player. I want to take him to meet you at one of your appearances. He’ll get a kick out of it. He’s a nice man. Second thing, your my favorite player because of your love and passion for the sport. It just shows, I don’t know how to explain it. Win or lose, I love watching you play….thanks Jenjen

HEY! Good job on converting your dad! I hope my love for this game shows! I feel like I’m living a dream…. Thanks for being such a great fan!! -Swish

Hey Nick, My name is Daniel and I’m a huge fan of the Oakland A’s. You’re doing a great job on and off the field! Keep up the great work! Little by little the the team is going to get better and eventually take over first place in the AL west. So, lets stay positive because the Oakland A’s never give up!! I’m glad your with us! -Daniel One of East Bay’s Huge A’s Fan

Hey Daniel!! Thanks for the great words!!! You know it…we have it say positive!! Stay in touch! -Swish

Hi Nick, I am a big fan of yours. i see your show swisher unscripted and i wonder you should have your own show so we can know you more. do you check your mail often when you are on the road.

What Up Earl?

Thanks for being a great fan!! I do the unscripted and I have 3 weekly radio shows. My own TV show would be awesome!

I do check my email as often as I can!!

Hey Nick. My name s Phillip. I live in Stockton, CA. I been playing baseball all my life. Your like my hero, Nick. i’m 14 years old. I’ve learned everything I know from baseball from watching you play. I wanted to know, if I want to be a Professional baseball player like you, what are some things I should work on besides practice? Your #1 fan, Phillip.

Hey Phillip! Wow…what nice words! Thanks so much. Not many make it to the pro ranks …alot is based on natural God-given ability…that combined with working hard and a big break! The best advice would be to continue to practice…most importantly have fun out there….do good in school so you can go to college and play college ball…and I think it’s really important to take care of yourself…eat healthy, get enough rest… I hope to hear from you again! -Swish

Hey Swish! My name’s Leanne from Vallejo, my boyfriend took me to my first baseball game a little over a year ago and I just fell in love with it. Seeing your love and passion for baseball has helped me appreciate the game even more. Thanks for all that you do for them A’s! We’re going to about 4 games a month this season. I’m sure you’ve heard this millions of times, but I’m one of your biggest fans! And what you did for the women’s cancer research fund was great, I work with cancer patients, and I’m sure every single one of them would be thankful for what you did. It’s great to see how much that has inspired others to do that as well. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to meet you some time this season!!! Take care!!! Let’s go A’s! -Leanne

Hey Leanne! Thanks for your note! I’m happy to hear you love baseball…I do to! Ever since I was a little kid …all I wanted to do is play baseball. I am having the time of my life!

Thanks for your nice words about my work with the Women’s Cancer Research Fund…that was an amazing experience for me. I just hope I was able to help one woman in need and I hope others will do something to help a cause they believe in. Keep coming to the A’s games!! Go A’s! -Swish

Hi Nick! I met you at Macy’s and just want to tell you that I love your hair! I know it must have been really hard for you to cut your hair, but it looks awesome! You are such a caring person and I enjoyed meeting you. Good luck in San Fran this weekend and hope to meet you again soon! Let’s go Oakland!!!! April

Hey April! What up? That Macy’s event was insane! I loved it and loved meeting all the fans that came out to see Huston and me. Great fun! We did pretty darn good in SF this weekend! Go A’s! -Swish

Hi! I just wanted to tell you that I’m excited to see a baseball player that does not feel “above” his fans. I absolutely love baseball, but sometimes the players upset me. So I hope you don’t change in that respect. I also wanted to share in the excitement of donating hair. I thought your donation and the whole process was cool. And, from personal experience, if you ever decide to donate your hair again, it will not as emotional in terms of losing your hair. The first time is the most difficult!!! Good luck. I’ll be rooting for you and the A’s (except when they are playing the Giants of course!!!). Thanks again. Luci Petlack

Hey Luci!

Thanks for your email! I really appreciate it! I love the fans–especially the fans here in Oakland! I don’t think I’ll ever change..so don’t worry.

Stay in touch with me…

-Swish

It’s Isabel… I really hope you make it to the All-Star game this year.

Hey Isabel! I would love to play in the All Star Game and the good news is at least I’m on the ballot this year! So…VOTE! You can vote right on the homepage on my site! -Swish

Hey Nick, I am a huge fan of yours and the entire A’s team. I am from Minnesota and live in Minnesota. I am probably the only person in this state that does not root for the Twins. I am very excited for the A’s July 13th game against the Twins. I will be at the Metrodome and I am pretty sure I will be the only person there wearing an A’s jersey. I will be sitting in the outfield and was wondering if you sign autographs for fans on road trips before games? Go A’s, Jon Laxen P.S. I will be waving my #33 A’s jersey around for everyone at the Metrodome to see. Hey Jon! That is so great to know that you love the A’s and you are a fan of mine too! The Twins sure are a great team though… they always play us tough. I have the greatest respect for all the guys there. I do sign as many autographs as I can for the fans. I will be on the look out for a waving A’s jersey! -Swish
Hey Nick, I want to begin by thanking you for inspiring me to become a better person. Like you, I recently lost someone dear to my heart. My grandfather passed away two years ago and not a day goes by that I do not think of him. He was the biggest A’s fan I knew, and I can thank him for passing along that passion to yours truly. Your decision to grow your hair and donate your locks to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and to help the Women’s Cancer Research Fund has motivated me to follow your example and donate my hair. Given the self-absorbed nature of most professional athletes, it was truly inspiring to observe your commitment and determination to this worthwhile cause. The next year should be a blast and I cannot wait to grow out my hair and have everyone ask, “What’s up?” with the new hair style. This is something I am proud to support and I plan to encourage others in my community to follow suit. As a loyal A’s fan from Toronto, Canada I was in the stands during your first professional at bat a few years ago and I’m looking forward to seeing you boys later on this summer. Thanks again Swish, Nick Poulias

Nick! Wow…that is so great! Make sure you send me photos of your hair along the way! Take care! -Swish

Nick I have been waiting for 3 years for this site. Well I have got to be one of your biggest fans. My Name is Trisha and I have been following you since you showed up in a small town called Modesto. I will never forget seeing you there you were not here long, but it did not matter. You came back to Sacramento and on to the Bigs, I watch every game, listen to every radio cast, every radio show, and read any article I can get my hands on. I want to thank you for being a inspiration to me and my son. I lost my grandmother at the same time as you under different circumstances but she meant everything to me. I was at the Yankees game on April 13th (my 30th birthday) when you hit you first home run of the year and you made it the best day ever. I want you to know personally that I will be donating in your grandmother’s name at least 11″ to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign this August. Thank you for being yourself and supporting all the good things you do. I am proud to wear your jersey where ever I go and I am proud that you are a role model to my son who adores you. Love and happiness Your biggest fan Trisha In loving Memory of Bettty Lorraine Swisher Nick we love you.

Dear Trisha - Thanks so much for your email and it’s so cool that you are growing out your hair too! It’s a really great program and I am happy I took part in it. I really appreciate you being such a great fan and I hope you will make it out to an A’s game this season. Would love to see you! Stay in touch. -Swish

Hi Nick, I really love your web site. In your answer to “How to become a major leaguer?” Did you mean that listening to your coach will help turn your weaknesses into strengths?? Please let me know. Brady, age 9 San Francisco

Hey Brady! Thanks so much for writing! Listening to my coaches and my parents was a big help…but you also have to work really hard to turn any weakness into strengths…not just in sports but in life…

You can do it!! I know you can. Stay in touch with me and let me know how you are doing. - Swish
